I know what you are thinking: "Will I be happy with a semi-permanent (2-3 years) commitment ON MY FACE with microbladed eyebrows?" Let me tell you my story.
For a few years, Kim would do my makeup for events and photoshoots. I would always love how she did my makeup, especially how she filled in my eyebrows. There are some mathematical ratios involved (they were kind of a mystery to me) and I never really got the hang of how to make my own brows look good using pencils and powders. At the end of the night of these events, I felt like I didn't want to wash off my makeup or my brows; should I sleep in the makeup so that I would have these brows that Kim did for a second day?!
During the makeup applications, she told me that she did microblading, which I knew nothing about. During all the pandemic lockdowns with nothing to do, I did some research on microblading, and thought, well if I can recover at home, maybe I'll just go for it?
I spend about 500-600 hours annually biking, running, hiking, walking and going to the gym. I don't wear makeup while being active as there is no point: it just melts off or ends up halfway down my face or irritating my eyes. Microbladed brows would be able to endure all the sweating and physical activity.
The microblading took two sessions and required about a week each to fully heal. Kim was quick with answering every question and worry that I had about it. I needed a lot of reassurance because I was really worried the final result.
Will it look like a Jiffy marker? NO.
Will they look bluey-green like some other eyebrow tattoos that I've seen around town? NO.
Can the head be softer and the tail more pronounced? YES.
The studio that she works from is ultra-clean and comfortable and I was there about 8 hours total in the two sessions. Conveniently it's right near the Canada Line Broadway Skytrain.
The actual microblading was not all that painful. My own brows lacked density and I pretty much had no tail naturally on them. Kim chose a great colour for me (dark taupey-brown) and I really loved the colour choice as I was wary anything too black would look really harsh on me. She did combo brows on me, which has a softer head and more pronounced tail. The complete healing in each session was 6 days each. So when I did the sessions on Sunday, by Friday, the flaking was done and they were fully healed.
Now, with very little effort, I look fairly presentable on my Zoom meetings and don't look so washed out when I'm doing all my sports! Keep in mind that if you're outdoors, you will need to extend your SPF and cover up your microbladed brows with sunscreen to prevent fading. My brows look reliably great in any selfie now too!
